Sheriff of Liberty County
Sheriff William “Will” Bowman is a Georgia native and has called Liberty County home for 15 years. He is a retired United States Army veteran and Georgia State Trooper. He is a state certified Law Enforcement officer in good standing, and has over 15 years' experience in law enforcement. He places the safety of his community first and is dedicated to integrating leaders at all levels to assist in keeping our citizens safe, while prioritizing transparency in doing so.
In his military career, Sergeant First Class Bowman served as a Senior Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) and as a Drill Sergeant before retiring. During his time in the Armed Forces, he was chosen for the most challenging leadership positions and successfully completed numerous missions throughout his multiple deployments in support of America's National Interest Operations. For his exceptional service, he has received various awards and decorations throughout his years as a soldier, including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal, to list a few. His experience in serving our country provided a well-built foundation that allowed for a straightforward transition into his career in law enforcement.
During his time as a Georgia State Trooper, Trooper Bowman was selected as Georgia State Trooper of the Year in 2015 and 2018. He was also selected as the Sergeant-At-Arms for 82nd Georgia State Patrol School. He has received advanced level training in Traffic Accident Investigation, Crisis Intervention, DUI Detection, and Tactics and Pursuit. The Governor of Georgia has formally recognized Will Bowman for outstanding public service, and he has provided security for numerous dignitary visits, to include the President of the United States, the Vice President, former presidents of the United States, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, numerous foreign heads of state, the United States Secret Service, the State Department, and the Department of Defense. Additionally, he was graciously recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) for outstanding support and dedication to their cause.
He and his wife, Tanya, share 5 wonderful children: Sirron, Tenara, Michael, Taniyah, and Taneiha.
What Are Sheriff Bowman’s Goals?
The main pillars of his continued mission as Liberty County’s Sheriff are centered upon crime reduction, public safety, ensuring a better future for our community’s youth, improving training an instruction for our Deputies, and serving the people of Liberty County from his heart. And, in doing so, aims to use taxpayer dollars in a more efficient and responsible manner, which is an in-progress initiative under the Sheriff’s current leadership that has increased incoming grant funds to bring about progress at mitigated costs to the citizens, thus protecting their livelihoods and quality of life. Sheriff Bowman aims to continue his mission by improving the Liberty County Sheriff's Office through policies that focus on accountability and transparency, while also emphasizing and providing new educational programs for our law enforcement officers that focus on important pressure points in modern policing, such as de-escalation training for high-risk scenarios, which will enhance the safety of our community as a whole.

With a focus on serving his community, Sheriff Will Bowman has been leading Liberty County in its pursuit of justice for all with compassion, respect, and integrity since 2021, and, in order to continue his mission of improving the quality of law enforcement and ensuring the safety and well-being of all our citizens, the Sheriff vows to protect the life, liberty, and livelihoods of his constituents, while also maintaining the trust and confidence of the people of Liberty County through his continued efforts and initiatives in cultivating community partnerships to ensure that he has the support of his constituents. Sheriff Bowman’s heart is with the people of Liberty County.
